Help us prepare for campers! 

May 18, 2024

Join us at Carol Joy Holling Camp’s annual Work Day! We need your help to prepare our site for the more than 1,500 campers arriving during the summer. Bring friends and family for a day of work in God’s creation!

What you should expect when you volunteer:

 

  • Orientation 

  • Project training 

  • Community of support from staff 

  • Meaningful work 

  • Appreciation for your service

Volunteer at NLOM to try something new, broaden your experiences, brush up on skills, and build your faith.

What is expected of you when you volunteer:

  • Be reliable 

  • Communicate with your supervisor 

  • Inform Volunteer Coordinator of changes to availability or commitment 

  • Abide by the NLOM code of conduct 

  • Show enthusiasm and support for NLOM 

  • Treat and respect sensitive material with confidentiality

Maintenance &
Building & Grounds

May - September, Carol Joy Holling Camp

MOWING

Using our Grasshopper riding mowers, mow large sections of our 317-acre property.

Must be 18 or older, preferred experience with Grasshopper mowers.

 

BUILDING/CONCRETE

This is an as-needed task. If and when we are blessed to grow we need volunteers to dig with equipment, shovel, and even strap on a tool belt to help us out. If you have experience please let us know!

WOODWORK

Build, Rebuild, or Reinforce some of our benches, crosses, fences and more! 

PAINTING

From touch-up projects to fresh paint or stain. We sure could your help! 

LANDSCAPING

Using our tools and your talents. This task includes tending gardening, mulching, trimming, and more! 

 

You'll join the Maintenance crew and eat lunch with our campers!

 

Dates/Times: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. - dates are open all summer long.

EVENTS

GALA

 

Our volunteers are needed to help with organizing pre-event, during & after.

 A fancy fundraiser event for camp - Hors d'oeuvres, Drinks, Silent Auction, Dinner & a Live Auction to support camp

 

ALL IN ONE AMAZING NIGHT!

GOLF TOURNAMENT

 Guest Services
 

With 5 buildings, 15 meeting spaces, 20 campsites, a 545 sleeping capacity, and bathhouses to share;

our housekeepers are always busy!

HOUSEKEEPING

Three amazing and dedicated housekeepers keep this place looking beautiful!

 Tasks include Room Turnover, Clean Bathrooms, Dusting, Vacuuming, etc.

You will be helping our Housekeeping Surpervisor and their team in these tasks.

HOST

Ever wonder how the chairs and tables get set up and moved from building to building? Or whom you should contact if something comes up while you are on-site and in need of assistance?

 

Well... we have a team of fabulous Hosts that help us set everything up for the next group.

 

We would love to see a few Weekend and Overnight Volunteer Hosts (Age 18 or older).

 

There's a lot of "setting up" and "tearing down" with this job. Strength is a must! This is a very physical job.

You will be working with our Manager of Hospitality and their strong team. 

KITCHEN

We have a year-round full-service kitchen located in the Sjogren Center.

 

Our kitchen serves campers at our summer camps and also the retreat and conference guests, when necessary. 

You will be assisting our Chef & their talented team, as needed.

Lunch is provided on-site for you.

 

You'll join the Conference and Retreat Team for these events.

This is the task for you!

Chantelle will guide you through this task.

 

RESEARCH 

 

The internet is an amazing tool these days and we too use it for research. If you are tech-savvy and are comfortable with the computer, we would love to hear from you!

You will work with multiple departments on this.

MAILING

We do lots of mailings here at camp to keep all our friends informed!

 

 We invite church groups, families, and individuals out to help with folding, stickering, sealing, and stamping often, and occasionally we deliver tasks to be done in your own homes with detailed instructions, as well.

Our Volunteer Coordinator will be your go-to on this.

Prayer Partners

SUMMER MINISTRY TEAM

May-August

 

Could you add a prayer or two to your list for our Summer Ministry Team members? 

This is done in pen pal fashion. We will match you to someone and share provided information about them.

 

We just ask that you pray for their well-being and guidance and keep in contact with them over the summer.

 

Everyone loves to receive letters that include words of encouragement!

YEAR-ROUND STAFF

The same concept for Year-Round Staff. This includes part-time and full-time employees of NLOM.

We ask that you pray over our ministry and our staff.

Nature Enthusiasts

TRAILS

ALL YEAR ROUND

 

Our property is covered in trails that our campers and guest walk every day to different locations RAIN OR SHINE. 

 

Growing trees and plants creep onto the trails that need to be maintained all year long. All materials provided.

You will work with the Building + Grounds Team, as well as the Manager of Adventure Programs.

BUTTERFLY GARDENS

MAY-AUGUST

 

Onsite we have a beautiful flower garden that attracts butterflies of all sorts. Our campers will get to tend and enjoy while they stay at camp

.

Volunteers are needed to help with pre-season prep, weekend tends, as well as postseason prep.

 

As a Volunteer, you will work with our Manager of Adventure Programs.

Team Building

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Our team-building programs will not only bring new energy to your team, but they will also provide an opportunity to intentionally work on developing and advancing your team’s skills. Working through the challenges together will develop the skills of trust, communication, cooperation, and collaboration.

Do you love fishing, hiking, and exploring? 

 

Our woodlands, prairies, wetlands, spring-fed lake, sandstone outcroppings, and abundant wildlife offer a unique place set apart for exploration, discovery, sharing, and learning.

 

We have several miles of hiking trails, a lake for fishing and pond study, a stargazing deck, campfire rings, overnight accommodations, and more. All types of groups are welcome including public and private schools, home school groups, and church groups.

Horse Care

SUMMER WEEKENDS

May-August

 

Would the experience of caring for a horse make someone you know very happy?

Our Ranch Camp teaches basic horsemanship skills from certified wranglers. Our horses provide riding experiences such as arena riding, obstacle courses, and trail riding. 

 

But when camp sessions end each week the horses still need lots of love, food, and water.

 Our horses love children and we'd like to share this opportunity with you!

 

All caretakers must be supervised by an adult 18 years of age at all times.

You will work with the Program team, Summer Ministry Team, and our Maintenance team on this task.

NON-CAMP MONTHS BOARDING

August-May

 

Horse boarding volunteers provide care, feed, shelter, and grooming for a Carol Joy Holling Camp Horse. Homes typically board 1-2 horses!

Your family is able to ride, care for, and get priceless experience working with a horse during the school year! NLOM agrees to provide instructions for feed, care, and equipment needs for your assigned horse(s). We also send along tack for each assigned horse.
